NOMADIC SETTLEMENT AND THE PARADIGM OF LIVELIHOOD SUSTAINABILITY CASE STUDY: ILAM PROVINCE

Abstract

Iranian nomads, contribute to more than 1.5% of the country populationbut produce 35% of total protein yield as well as 40% of the country's handicrafts, but unfortunately their share of social services is not adequate. Therefore, identifying the best way of life and developing their livelihood that can meet their needs is a vital step for the sustainable development of nomads. The purpose of this study is to present a method using a multi-criteria decision model for housing that can ensure sustainable livelihoods of nomads in Ilam Province west of iran. The results showed that among the three methods of nomadic settlement, considering that nomadic migration is the oldest method of nomadic settlement, but has the highest priority in ensuring livelihood sustainability. Nomadic livelihood instability will have long-term consequences for migration and mrginalization, declining incomes, and threats to food security in Iran.
